Tips for furnishing your new home

When moving into a new home many people are excited by the prospect and then suddenly realise that they will need to stamp their personality on it. To the large majority this means replacing the, typically, magnolia coloured walls with something that is more interesting. Whether this is different coloured paint or wall paper or maybe adding some interesting and unusual furniture (rosewood or laquared for example) depends on the individual.

This section of our web site aims to give you a few hints and tips on how to furnish your new home. We are not setting out rules, merely making suggestions that you may or may not have already considered when planning the redecorations.

The first thing to do is not to rush, live with the property for a while and see how you feel once you have settled in. It can be very tempting to move in and start to redecorate straight away, but by giving yourself time to reflect on the house you will realise that the sun shines in through particular windows, that one room always looks darker than the others etc and these facts will help you decide what you want or need to do.

Of course, there are things that you can start early in the process, such as making your hallway look larger or arranging furniture to make the small guest bedroom look bigger. Once these spaces have been attended to it can be time to think about rooms such as kitchens, living rooms and master bedrooms.

While doing all this you should think about whether you have a child safe home and even a pet safe home, these things can be important and yet simple to achieve.
